Not being much of a video gamer, it was a little out of the ordinary that I took the plunge and got the Nintendo Wii a few weeks after it came out however many years ago that was. I was looking for something new in an exercise regimen that I could do on my non-gym days in the living room at home and the Wii Fit and the balance board came along at just the right time. So I got it. And I loved it for quite a while, but like all things that must become a routine in order to consistently do them, the novelty wore off. So, the Wii went in the cabinet under the TV and has not seen the light of day since.
My routine after the Wii was to get back into power walking around the neighborhood. This I really enjoy even though it is sometimes limited by the weather, especially this time of year. But I found myself looking around again for the next DVD exercise craze or the next video game “thing” that would allow me to get back to the quickie-living room exercise that fits into a 30 minute session btween other life things like dinner and kids, ect.
I decided to give the new XBox game gadget (the “Kinect”) a try since the kids have had an XBox for a few years. There is not a lot of physical exercise game title available yet, but the short list of Kinect fitness games does have a few winners in there if you can believe the reviews on Amazon and other places on the web. Zumba seems to be a big favorite, and the new Your Shape for 2012 also looks good. But I decided to try the UFC personal trainer game. Not a lot to report yet, but I will get back with a review of that title after I have has a few weeks on the new routine.
Wish me luck!
