Tomatoes can be juiced raw or they can be blanched or cooked first, based on your preference. Either way don&#8217;t juice the stems, they are poisonous! I prefer to juice tomatoes raw with their skins on to take advantage of the many antioxidants that congregate in the skins. However, it is a good idea to not drink raw tomato juice too often because it contains oxalic acid, a compound that can leech calcium out of the body. If you cook the tomatoes, the oxalic acid will become neutralized, avoiding this problem</p>

Endless studies show that there can be a  big difference between the nutrient content of organic and non-organic (intensively farmed) tomatoes. A study conducted by Betty Ishida and Mary Chapman at the USDA Agricultural Research Service in Albany, CA found that organic ketchup contained three times as much lycopene (a potent antioxidant) as non-organic ketchup! After a few weeks the cholesterol levels of each participant had actually dropped by a few points. Another study also found that cloudy apple juice has a better effect at lowering cholesterol than clear apple juice.</span></strong></p>
<p>Cloudy apple juice is created by juicing apple with their skins on. The skin of an apple is where most of its flavonoid and fiber content is found. (Flavonoids and fiber have both been independently researched to have cholesterol lowering effects.) Commercial apple juices are often pressed without the apple skins and also go through further filtering process. This creates a very clear, but much less nutritious juice. A freshly homemade apple juice, that includes the skin is going to provide the most cholesterol lowering heart health benefits.</p>

However, earlier this year, two independent research studies provided strong evidence that resveratrol is also very beneficial for humans. Volunteers who were given daily resveratrol supplements displayed as much as a 63% increase in the elasticity of their brachial artery. (The brachial artery is one of the main arteries that delivers blood to the heart.) Such an increase in elasticity had a consequent effect of lowering blood pressure. Artery elasticity is also inversely related to atherosclerosis &#8211; a condition that is a major contributer to heart disease.</p>

<p>Whole grain, brown carbs and baby potatoes are some of the best carbs as they supply the body with energy throughout the day.</p>
