If you are planning on working around the house, keep in mind any problems you may have had with home improvement materials in the past. If, on previous occasion, you have had issues with your DIY building materials and supplies, the same thing could happen again, so beware.
Different people seem to have issues with different products. Some other people are able to skate by with no sensitivities are irritation. Presumably this is yet another of life’s mysteries as to why this is the case.
The list of things which people or their skin can be sensitive to is probably endless. Here are some things:
Paint – Paint can be oil based or latex based. Breathing in fresh paint seems to be an issue for some individuals.
Solvents – Harsh liquids may irritate skin. Try to keep the liquid off of you.
Fiberglass insulation – Some people have reported that batt insulation makes their skin red and itchy.
Cement – The component ingredients of concrete can be topically irritating to the skin. Also be careful to keep this out of your eyes. As you pour out your bag of dry concrete mix, the dust from the material can go overwhere, including into your face and on to your clothing.
Fumes – The fumes that go along with something that’s being welded can be irritating to your eyes and your lungs.
Wood dust – Particle board chips and sawdust are something you should try to stay away from. Wearing a mask like a surgical mask may be a good idea. If you can wear long-sleeved attire, the shirt sleeves can protect the skin on your arms.
Working in a well-ventilated area will help keep the air fresh so that materials and odors are not dense in the air.
After you have worked on the job, washing your work clothes and taking a shower are also a good idea.
