How Does Hoodia Help In Weight Loss

February 17, 2010

Hoodia is a purple flowered, cactus like, bitter plant that mainly grows in the drier regions of Africa. The hoodia herb is famous for its properties that help people lose excess weight. It is one the main components of the famous Hoodia Gordonii Plus, a weight reduction solution.

The history of hoodia can be traced back to the native Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert. In an attempt to keep on hunting for longer periods, the Bushmen would use the hoodia herb by cutting the stem and taking the juice which was meant to suppress their hunger and thirst.

Hoodia is a plant extract that aids in natural weight reduction without any serious side effects. Studies undertaken by Phytopharm revealed facts to verify the statement. There are many types of hoodia but perhaps the most intriguing would be the hoodia gordonii, which has the P57 element. Test subjects exhibited positive results by reducing their calorie intake by almost 1000 and thus hoodia gordonii was found to be an effective means of weight reduction.

Instead of regulating the rate at which the body burns fats, the hoodia suppresses hunger and thus reduces intake of any more foods likely to engage the digestion system. The P57 element sends signals to the brain, making it believe the bowels are full. Even though hoodia products are very effective, it is advisable to couple it with regular exercise.

A lot of people who have taken hoodia pills daily for several months in an attempt to lose weight have ended up a disappointed lot; reason being hoodia only works to suppress appetite but doesn’t do anything about overeating. This is another reason why a good diet and exercise is necessary even while using hoodia products.

There are three different scientific ways of finding out the authenticity of hoodia namely; HPLC, TLC, CITES and Microscopy. Genuine dealers are required to have the necessary documentation to prove their authenticity.

Due to the limited supply of hoodia in the market, most of the hoodia making rounds in the market is not genuine. There is scarcity of hoodia because of two major factors; hoodia grows well only in the hot regions like deserts and take up to five years before they mature.
