How to Shape Up for the Holidays

February 4, 2010

When you know that it will be the holidays soon and this means that you will have to show some skin and you will also most definitely eat a bit more than usual, you would probably want to make provisions for it by getting in shape. To help you do so, we will look at the top 10 thing you have to do:

1. Write down your reasons

Your reasons will motivate yourself and will be your driving force. Think about why you want to lose weight and write it down where you can see it regularly.

2. Take your measurements

At the start of your weight loss journey, take your measurements of your waist, tummy, and thighs and over your bum and weigh yourself.

3. Set goals

To have a sense of drive and purpose, formulate some goals and make sure that they are smart – specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bounded.

4. Keep a food dairy

Keep a food dairy for the first week and also for the remainder of your weight loss journey.

5. Incorporate a cheat meal

Have once a week a cheat meal where you can eat anything you want. It will make the journey easier for you.

6. Evaluate eating habits and adjust

Have a look at your eating habits (from your food dairy’s first week) and decide whether you need to clean your eating habits up a bit. For a sample diet menu, click the link.

7. Plan your exercise

Keep a fitness journal where you plan your exercise – the type of machine, the intensity and the weight load you want to use. Write down your actual and your planned for the day. For a fun workout, check out the daisy fuentes fitness game.

8. Reward yourself

Reward yourself positively when you have reached your goals or when you had a successful week.

9. Keep track of progress

Keep track of your progress with your food and fitness journals and take your measurements every month.

10. Maintain your results

Maintain your results once you have achieved them. You should still exercise and eat right.

If you follow the above steps you will have a lean and toned body come the holidays. Then you can enjoy yourself more around the pool or beach and you don’t have to worry about eating too much, as you are in such great shape. Just go back to your healthy eating habits once the holidays are finished.
