Most experts will warn that lipo surgery is not a solution for obesity and should not be considered a weight loss plan by any means. It is meant to be used as a complement to regular exercise and proper dieting to further sculpt the body in ways that cannot be done by traditional weight loss methods such as exercising. There is a reason why there are eligibility requirements of prospective patients and that it simply to protect the surgeon and patient from unrealistic requests. It is the surgeon’s duty to deny liposuction to anyone who is not fit for the procedure.
The first determinate of a candidates eligibility for laser lipo is his or her weight relative to their ideal weight. The general guide line is that the patient should be no more than 20 pounds overweight and exercise regularly. These people are physically fit and their weight has remained constant over the past year to show stability in weight management. It is not for people who are excessively overweight and is not weight loss strategy. Going on a crash diet is dangerous and no one should be allowed to undergo cosmetic surgery after losing weight from such diets.
Another important criterion any patient must meet before being considered eligible is being mentally sound. More than just being physically ready for the surgery the patient must display rational and realistic expectations from liposuction. Not plastic surgery procedure will serve as the magic pill to all ailments and the patient must understand this or risk becoming a cosmetic enhancement addict.
Some major procedures will dramatically alter the patient’s physical appearance and, especially in the case of complications, some patients are at risk of post-traumatic disorder after looking in the mirror and not being able to ever see themselves again. Although such cases are rare, it is important that every patient is aware of the risks involved.
