Not All Drug Detox Centers Are Created Equal

March 24, 2010

Some drug detox centers just do the detoxification. Other centers take a holistic approach and include rehabilitation.  Some offer a combination of in-house and follow-up out-patient treatments.

Drug abuse is an excessive and repeated use of a chemical substance to achieve a certain effect. These substances could be elicited street drugs or they could be some prescription drugs that are misused.

According to Drug Detox Online, these detoxification centers do an evaluation of the client to determine if detox is the right action. They do a comprehensive medical, addition, and psychiatric assessment. Based on the information they gather, they prescribe a course of treatment lasting from three days to two weeks and longer if necessary. This treatment depends on what was taken, how often they were used, the length of time they have been using these, any medical issues or problems with the client and if the drugs were taken in combination with any other.

The holistic approach believes the addition is caused by a biochemical craving and is not a character flaw. The person takes the chemical because temporarily they make the person feel more normal. This course of treatment includes both detoxification and restoring the multiple hormonal, nutritional and brain chemical deficiencies. Once the body is restored to normal, the desire for the drug is no longer present.

These treatments are expensive. Many medical insurance policies cover the treatment. There are loans available if the patient does not have insurance or does not have, an insurance plan will cover these. These loans can be secured or unsecured and cover up to whole cost of the treatment.  The loans can be repaid over 30 years, if the patient chooses.
The right drug detox center for you depends on many things. Each center has a course of treatment.  No matter which one you choose the center is a safe and secure place to go through substance withdrawal.
