If you have a fear of driving on freeways then you may be thinking that you are all alone in this world and that your fear is the only one of its kind. Well actually, driving phobias aren’t as uncommon as you may think. There are many different forms of it of course ranging from people who try to suppress their panic attacks while driving to people who have a fear of driving on freeways. So now you know that you aren’t alone, why not try and do something about this phobia that is talking power your life?
It is a big task overcoming your fear of driving and there are a few things that you need to think about before you seek treatment for driving phobias. The first one is to accept that you have a problem. You need to understand what your phobia is exactly and what it means to you. If you are afraid of driving completely then you need to understand that or if you are only afraid when you drive across the freeway then you should recognise the difference. This will mean that you can focus on that particular part of your phobia rather than trying to treat a problem that isn’t there.
Secondly you need to make sure that you have plenty of friends and loved ones around you to support you. Some people prefer to have one “buddy” that they can talk to or ring at any time of the day to let them know how they are feeling. This should be someone you trust who is there for you no matter what and will not be angry if you ring them at 3am because you’ve had a driving nightmare. Once you have these two covered then you can go on to tackle your phobia easily.
